The question of whether curtains or window blinds looks best in the home is a difficult one. Or is it really? Offered the choice between curtains and window blinds in my house I will go for curtains each time. Blinds should only be seen in doctor’s waiting rooms and offices. For houses and homes curtains will always be the best choice to make. They make any space they are used in more comfortable and add character to the home. There are many advantages of choosing curtains rather than blinds. Listed below are just some of them. Health With increasing numbers of people being affected by dust allergies and asthma nowadays it is very important keep your house as dust free as possible. Window Blinds really are a dust trap. In truth you couldn’t build a better dust trap than horizontal or Venetian blinds. It’s like they were created expressly to gather as much dust as they can. To have them clean and prevent dust gathering they must be cleaned everyday. Curtains are completely different. The amount of dust they attract is small and only need to be hoovered once every seven days. Bay Windows If your house has bay windows do not spoil them by installing window blinds. Installing blinds in bay windows is just plain wrong and will make your home look like an office building. Instead put up an ornate iron curtain pole and suspend some wonderful curtains from it. Reliability Is it me or do all blinds sooner or later end up in a state of disrepair? Cords snap, they get twisted, broken or trapped or the mechanism will just pack in. Venetian window blinds in particular are well known for having a complex mechanism that will break when you need it the most. Curtains really are a different matter of course. They are reliable and easy to take care of and look after. Those are just a few reasons why I will always favour curtains for my house. Blinds are perfectly suitable for the office but in other places curtains are the best option. They look great with any type of decoration and suit any type of home from the ultra modern to warm and comfortable cottages.
